Biofuels are worse for the climate than fossil fuels

The European program to promote biofuels will lead farmers to the European Union and especially from other parts of the world to convert 69,000 km square area uncultivated fields which will further accelerate climate change study said. It was conducted by nine groups of environmental protection under the aegis of the Institute for European Environmental Policy and has been cited by the New Scientist website.

The area affected by this change in land use could be the size of the Republic of Ireland and biofuels would be produced could generate between 81% and 167% more carbon dioxide than fossil fuels. The Independent points out that production and consumption of biofuels could generate by 2020 and between 27 and 56 million tonnes of CO2 per year, equivalent to 12 to 26 million additional cars on European roads.

Teams from the European Commission challenged the conclusions of organizations of environmental protection. They believe that most of the production of biofuels will not come from new land brought under cultivation but the conversion of existing crops.

The European Union has set itself the goal of having 10% of fuel used in transport from renewable sources by 2020. A goal that appears increasingly unrealistic to experts, unless the sales of electric vehicles actually exploded and that the use of biofuels is not solid. That said, the eyes of organizations to protect the environment, it would be a tromp. The electricity used to recharge the batteries of electric vehicles would not necessarily be from renewables.

The paradox of this situation is that biofuels will again become popular today, at least in France.

According to an Ipsos Maxisciences quoted by the website, the French say they are mostly ready to use. They are 78% say ready to “fight against global warming” by using green fuels. The Ipsos survey, which comes to this conclusion also shows that users are, 56% were “somewhat” or “all-in-fact” willing to “consider the option of a flex-fuel vehicle super-powered ethanol and gasoline when purchasing their next vehicle.
